You know there is something fundamentally wrong when an ad uses grammar errors to make it sound more down-to-earth. As if the naff use of language would lend the product more credibility.
The worst part is that it probably works. Otherwise, the makers would have changed it over the years.
There is the forcefully jolly, chuckling voice of a brain-dead pirate trying to invoke the good old days – when we were all a bit dim, and the bread was still hand baked.
Just read the ingredients on the package.
Welcome to the industrial age of the 21st century.
You can hear the companies slogan in the ad above – Today’s Bread Today.
It makes no sense, and it’s painful to even think about it.
It is like saying:
Wet water – even wetter.
Or
The future is now.
Nobody believes anyway that every loaf in the shops is baked the same day.
Dumbing down the ad shows no confidence in your products.
Today’s lack of confidence, today!
Maybe the slogan should say:
Brennans – A slice short of a sandwich.
